Call for Presentations: 16th GW Ethics in Publishing Conference
The theme of this year's conference is Integrity by Design.
The 16th annual GW Ethics in Publishing Conference engages students, professionals, and researchers to demonstrate ethical leadership and restore public trust in publishing and scholarly communications. This year’s conference promotes proactive action and the implementation of creative and systemic solutions to promote integrity in the profession and practice of publishing.
Publishing, library, and scholarly communications professionals will present on forward-thinking strategies such as: designing transparent peer review practices; advancing publishing equity and inclusive design; developing solutions to strengthen research integrity; employing Artificial Intelligence intentionally and conscientiously; and leveraging metadata to track and trace the scholarly record. Participants will explore how inclusive practices, accessibility, and community-centered models serve as the foundation for a more accountable and trustworthy publishing ecosystem.
We are seeking conference presentations from (and for) publishing and library professionals, scholars, faculty, and students.
Suggested topics include but are not limited to:
• Implementation of equitable solutions to peer review challenges
• Intentional approaches to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Research Integrity
• Improving publishing equity in the workplace and publishing practices
• Impact of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility efforts
• Multilingual publishing and strategies to improve access
• Accessibility efforts and impact
• Environmental sustainability and publishing
• Inclusive practices in language editing and design
• Developing community-centered peer review practices
• Equity in the publishing ecosystem (i.e. staff, authors, reviewers, & editorial boards of university presses and scholarly publishing organizations)
• Approaches to upholding author integrity (plagiarism, etc.)
• Improvements in author outreach and education
• Improving representation on editorial boards
• Upholding academic freedom and countering book banning and censorship
• Partnerships between presses in developed & developing economies
Alumni and current students in the GW Publishing program are invited to present their Ethics in Publishing Capstone projects or other research. Students and alumni of other graduate and undergraduate publishing programs are likewise invited to submit a proposal to share their research. We welcome proposals from professionals, researchers, scholars, and enthusiasts of publishing, library and information science, scholarly communication, media studies, and all fields with an interest in ethics in publishing.
Presentations will include invited speakers, multiple speaker panels, and short presentations. See presentation videos and slides from the 15th GW Ethics in Publishing Conference. Last year's conference featured 54 publishing and library professionals and students in 26 sessions and nearly 700 attendees.
We encourage you to present and attend in person, but we understand this is not always possible. Presenters who are unable to travel to the conference site are able to present virtually. Unfortunately, we are unable to defray travel expenses.
Attendance (in person and virtual) to the conference is free-of-charge.
Deadline for Proposal Submissions for the 16th Ethics in Publishing Conference is May 1, 2026.
We will endeavor to accommodate as many presentations as possible. We may group your presentation with other similar topics by other presenters. Presentations will range from 15-40 minutes. Please indicate below if you have co-presenters.
