Call for Papers
Submit your article using the GWJEP Scholastica submission site.
The George Washington University Master of Professional Studies in Publishing program solicits papers for the George Washington Journal of Ethics in Publishing (GWJEP). This online journal is managed by students in the GW Publishing program and overseen by Editor-in-Chief Lois Jones and an editorial board of publishing professionals.
The GWJEP is published in conjunction with the GW Ethics in Publishing Conference. Conference presentations as well as papers based on previously-presented material are also encouraged. The journal publishes on the Manifold Scholarship platform developed by the University of Minnesota Press, the Graduate Center at the City University of New York, and Cast Iron Coding, through a grant from the Mellon Foundation. The peer review platform has been provided by Scholastica.
We welcome scholarly research articles, case studies, book reviews, and conference presentations from scholars, students, and publishing professionals on topics including but not limited to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), accessibility, sustainability, open access, peer review, publishing metrics, and other aspects and issues of ethics in publishing. Innovative forms of scholarship, such as audiovisual media, are also encouraged. The journal invites submissions from publishing professionals in all areas of the publishing industry, including academics, librarians, authors, illustrators, editors, agents, rights managers, production managers, paper producers, ink suppliers, and more. Articles relating to any publishing sector are welcome, including academic and trade publishing. Student submissions are also highly encouraged; papers from underrepresented voices are especially encouraged.
Peer review will use a double-blind process, which ensures anonymity between author and reviewer. The GW Journal of Ethics in Publishing accepts five main categories of articles:
- Scholarly articles and case studies presenting research about ethical issues in publishing
- Applied Ethics/"Making the World Better" articles and projects that explore contributions to local, regional, or global publishing networks, as well as initiatives in literacy and related fields.
- Editorials and commentaries (Invited by editorial board, but contact if you have an idea)
- Reviews of books, websites, digital projects, and other web resources with a focus or considerable aspect of ethics in publishing.
- Conference presentations
