Personal Nature of Salvation: The Interplay with Community
Salvation and Responsibility
While the gift of salvation is personal, Christians believe they share responsibility for witnessing and inviting others to faith (the “Great Commission”). However, salvation is not strictly dependent on human action but is ultimately in God’s hands[10][12][13].
Communal and Individual Elements
Catholic theology, for example, teaches that salvation is both communal and individual, my belonging to the community of faith impacts my relationship with God, but my response to grace is uniquely personal[14]. This balance echoes the blood type analogy: individuals are unique, but the continuance of life relies on the circulation within the larger body.
